Hard Drive CleanUp

The Hard Drive CleanUp is an onboard system tool provided by Microsoft Windows.  PC TuneUp Maestro invokes this utility for your convenience.  Hard Drive CleanUp works to free up space on your hard disk by searching for files that you can delete safely.  When the scan is complete you have the option to delete some or all of the files.

important Performing some system modifications can cause unexpected results.  In the event that modifications will not be as desired, we recommend you can use the system restore functionality to return your system to a previous state. See: Backup & Restore.

 

Starting a Hard Drive CleanUp

Getting started is simple.

To start a Hard Drive CleanUp scan, do the following:

From the Fix & Clean page, click the Hard Drive CleanUp link.

 

notes  The scan is run on your primary Hard Disk drive (for example, C: drive).

 

Cancel a Scan

You can cancel a scan after it has started.

To cancel a scan do the following:

Click the Cancel button.

Disk Cleanup

Results are displayed once the scan is completed.  From the Disk Cleanup tab of the window, you can review the areas where files can be deleted and select ones that you want to remove from your system.

Review Items

You can select any category in the list and get a description relevant to that category.  In this Description area there sometimes appears an option to view the items.  Click the button to view the items.  For example, you can select "Recycle Bin" and then click the "View Files" button to bring up a folder where the files reside.

Select Items

When you review items you can select the ones you want to include when performing the cleanup.

To select items, do the following:

Check the associated box.

Clean Items

When you are done you can delete the items.

important  If you are uncertain about the changes you are making, we recommend creating a backup beforehand.  See Backup & Restore for instructions.

To delete the items, do the following:

1.Click the OK button.
2.Click Yes in the confirmation dialog.

You can also clean the following items: Windows components, Installed programs, and System Restore.

To begin cleaning other items, do the following:

On this page there are three areas and you can click the associated "Clean up" button and follow the necessary steps (review, select, and clean up).
