How to fix ActiveX errors

Step 1: Adjust Internet Explorer settings:

1. Open Internet Options from the Tools menu, and select the Security tab
2. Set Medium-high (using the slider) for Security level for this zone.
3. Browse to a group of settings labeled ActiveX controls and plug-ins and adjust settings for the following two items:
4. Set Enable for Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
5. Set Enable for Script ActiveX controls marked safe for browsing

To protect your system security, we recommend you check and follow the settings for the following items in the same group:

1. Set Disable for Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt
2. Set Disable for Allow Scriptlets
3. Set Disable for Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls
4. Set Enable for Binary and script behaviors
5. Set Disable for Display video and animation on a web page that does not use external media player
6. Set Prompt for Download signed ActiveX controls
7. Set Disable for Download unsigned ActiveX controls
8. Set Disable for Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting
9. Set Enable for Only allow approved domains to use ActiveX without prompt

Step 2: Reset the system file MSXML.dll

1. Click the Windows Start button
2. and type run in the edit box, located at the bottom of the Start menu
3. Select the matching application named Run and click it.
4. Type regsvr32 msxml3.dll in the Open: field and click the OK button.

A confirmation dialog box will appear to inform you that the system file has been reset.

Identify and fix faulty ActiveX add-ons in Internet Explorer

To do so, you first need to reset Internet Explorer to disable any ActiveX add-ons. You can do that easily by using one of the Internet Explorer Repair function offered by PC TuneUp Maestro, or you can follow the following steps:

1. Open Internet Options from the Tools menu and select the Advanced tab
2. Click the Reset... button
3. In Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click the Reset button

The reset process doesn't uninstall any ActiveX add-ons, instead, it disables them. Now, visit your favorite web sites as usual. When visiting a web site that requires a currently disabled ActiveX control, you will be prompted for permission to run that ActiveX add-on. If you enable an ActiveX control and it crashes, then you known immediately of which ActiveX is faulty. It is recommended that you follow the following steps to uninstall any ActiveX control that's problematic or crashes:

1. Open Internet Options from the Tools menu and select the Programs tab
2. Click the Manage add-ons button and select Show: All add-ons
3. Locate and select the faulty ActiveX add-on and right-click to bring up the context menu
4. Click More information from the context menu
5. Click the Remove button at the bottom of the dialog box to uninstall the ActiveX control

Identify and Fix ActiveX errors outside of Internet Explorer:

First, identify the host application where a faulty ActiveX is installed. If you can't determine the source of the ActiveX error, you then need to analyze the system error log, which captures events of errors and crashes. Once you have identified the host application, make sure you have the most up-to-date version of the application. Chances are there may already be a patch or upgrade released to address the issue you are encountering. Alternatively, uninstall the application, reinstall the latest version and reboot your PC. This helps reset and re-register any related ActiveX control and may solve your ActiveX errors.
