With the Registry Defrag tool you can analyze whether your registry is fragmented. We recommend that you perform a Registry Repair before performing a registry defrag. In this way unwanted registry items will be removed and you can then proceed to deal with the fragmentation that can result. Once analyzed you can defrag the registry if required to do so. The process is a straightforward one.
Registry Defrag and the Smart TuneUp
You can also run the Registry Defrag when performing a Smart TuneUp. In doing so you have the opportunity to run multiple functions at once and we recommend using it if you want to run tools consecutively including Registry Repair, System TuneUp, Internet TuneUp, and Registry Defrag. See the Smart TuneUp section for more.
If you are uncertain as to the importance of the registry and are somewhat unfamiliar with it, follow these links to get the answers you need: What is the registry? What is registry fragmentation?

Starting a Registry Defrag
Getting started involves analyzing your registry for fragmentation.
During the Registry Defrag scan, your system may become non-responsive. In other words everything freezes. You need to wait for a few moments until the scan completes and the results are displayed.
To start a the defrag process, do the following:
From the Optimize page, click the Registry Defrag link.
Results: Registry Fragmentation
When the scan is complete, the results are displayed. The program provides a percentage of fragmentation that was detected in the number of sectors. You can also scroll down the page to review the results as the scanned sectors are listed along with a graphics display of the fragmentation and other details (original size, optimal size, and fragmentation percentage).
Fixing Registry Fragmentation
When you are finished reviewing the results you can easily fix the fragmentation issues.
Once again, your system may become non-responsive during this stage.
To repair registry fragmentation, do the following:
1. | Click the Defrag button. |
2. | When finished a message is displayed stating: In order for changes to take effect you need to close all your applications (save all your data), and restart your computer. Delaying this can have an impact to the integrity of your system files. You have the following options: |
a. | You can click Cancel or switch the focus to other applications, save your data, close your programs and restart the system manually. |
b. | If you have no other applications running, click the OK button, and have PC TuneUp Maestro restart your system automatically. |
When you have restarted your computer you can launch PC TuneUp Maestro and use other functions.
